Masculinity Detox is a public campaign aimed at stopping acceptance, tolerance and normalisation of masculine coded violence. This violence arises from the internalisation of power structures in patriarchy that have created and perpetuate certain ideas of masculinity and virility. This construct is referred to as toxic masculinity.
The project deals with different magnitudes of gender based violence and suppression of emotions. Statistical data on occurrences of gender based violence is visualised in infographics. Personal experiences from non-male perspectives are communicated in a video installation. In this project, men are asked to start listening to and hearing stories of the impact that their behaviour has.
